In his book Good to Great, Jim Collins planted the topic of humility squarely in the middle of leadership literature. Yet, in the twenty years since he published his ground-breaking work, humility is perhaps the most neglected subject in books and articles on effective leadership.

This neglect stems in large part from two cultural consideration. One is the view of humility in Greek and Roman civilization, which are where our modern concepts of leadership are most deeply rooted. The second cultural factor is the general misunderstanding of what humility means in contemporary society.

It's thus more fashionable to talk about humility than to practice it. Corporate discussions of humility usually amount to little more than virtue signalling. In this episode, we delve into that dynamic and examine the benefits derived when humility is taken seriously as a leadership trait.
